Holy smokes you guys, the exhaustion is real! I completely forgot about the drag behind being in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. My body feels strong and healthy but also totally blahhhhh. You know, that same feeling you get after a really good workout…. accomplished, strong, and oh so tired! Maybe me not being able to sleep at night has something to do with it too…
You all know that I have been following my own program The Fit Pregnancy Guide and am loving all the benefits from staying as consistent as possible with it. I still can run (more like “wog” as my sister calls it…a.k.a. a walk/jog) next to my daughter while she rides her bike. I am tired, of course, but not so tired that I need a nap. My body feels just as strong as it did before pregnancy, but in different ways. I have maintained a healthy weight gain and my blood pressure is rockin it!
But you guys, I am still human! Pregnancy, especially, brings out the human in me! Some days I feel like I workout like an Olympian and other days I can barely find the motivation to put on yoga pants…let’s be honest though, putting on yoga pants is a workout in itself!
The Reality Of Working Out During Pregnancy
Each trimester of this pregnancy and each week has been different as far as how many actual workouts I get in. My first trimester I averaged 2-3 workouts a week. I had morning sickness, heartburn, constant gagging and was CRAZY exhausted. (Click the Video Below if you want to know the details on my 1st Trimester!) However, I truly felt accomplished when I got even those 2-3 workouts in.
2nd Trimester I did 4-6 workouts a week. I felt AMAZING and had lots of energy and motivation to go as hard as my body allowed. I felt that same sense of accomplishment with how many workouts I got in for my 2nd trimester as I did with my first even though I was doing twice the amount of workouts.
Right now, during my 3rd trimester, I seriously am all over the place with workouts (2-5 workouts a week.) Some weeks call me Super Girl, but MOST weeks I feel like a plumpy lumpy Idaho Spud. I’m not as exhausted as I was during my 1st trimester but don’t have as much energy as I did during my 2nd.
The 3rd trimester, for me, is more of this weird mental challenge. It’s not so much a lack of strength or energy but a lack of motivation, especially during weeks 29-32.
I Too Am Hard On Myself
29 through 32 weeks, I found myself sometimes having thoughts like…
“McCall you are a pregnancy trainer so get your booty in gear and workout every day!”
“[…] on Instagram is doing way more than you are during her pregnancy.”
“You should definitely be more toned than you are right now even in your 3rd trimester.”
BLAH BLAH BLAH! I mean seriously, what kind of thoughts are those?! Terrible ones! Maybe they were from my wonky pregnancy hormones or my nerves getting the best of me as I realized babies due date was sneaking up on me. Let’s be honest here, it was just me being plain ol hard on myself and there was absolutely no reason for me to be!
Look For The Positive
No I don’t get a full workout in 6 days a week, and THAT’S OKAY! Sometimes I get 1 or 2 rounds of a workout in (Prenatal Yoga or Inner Core from The Fit Pregnancy Guide) and that was the best I could do for that specific day.
I also work on getting outside and enjoying summer every single day no matter what the weather is. Literally, almost every day I go for a morning walk (15-30 minutes) while Kin rides her bike and we also go swimming….No joke, rain or shine, the girl is a fish! We also take full advantage of all the parks and splash pads around us.
All of that is something I should have been proud of!
Ladies, pregnant or not, I know we all have moments of weakness when we compare ourselves to others and when we think what we are doing isn’t sufficient enough. I honestly didn’t feel that what I was doing was sufficient enough until I wrote this post. Until I wrote down the positives in my day.
My Challenge For You... & Me!
I challenge you to write down 1 thing you did positive today! Try it out for 3 weeks! Write ONE thing. Maybe its…
I added a veggie to my lunch today
I drank 16 oz of water first thing when I woke up
I chose to eat only a half instead of the usual 2 donuts at our Friday treat day at work
I slept more than 8 hours
I put my phone away an hour before bed
Whatever it is, know that there is always something in your day to feel good about! I know I definitely needed to hear this!
xoxo, McCall
